Sound City Tour Series

1.1: Sound City Tour Series Front View
~120 watts from six EL34s, original knobs, small plastic logo, black "basketweave" Tolex, silver vein and gold metal trim; two inputs, one footswitch input (similar to L150), standard SC-style knobs. Also note Sound City added a Master Volume control. This head has cosmetic similarities to earlier DMI/Sound City heads as the Tour Series represented a transition between the Dallas-Arbiter/early DMI SC models and the purely DMI SMF model.

I'm not yet that familiar with this era of Sound City equipment. If anyone has information to share, please contact me.   Photos Home Page

1.2: Sound City Tour Series Chassis Front View
Partridge transformers; six preamp tubes, with one extra preamp tube possibly to drive the "Dirty" (distortion) channel. The chassis is virtually identical to previous SC chasses.   Photos Home Page

1.3: Sound City Tour Series Chassis Rear View
Six EL34s; note the rear panel similarities to previous SC models.   Photos Home Page

1.4: Sound City Tour Series Chassis Rear Interior View
Sound City's layout just cannot be confused with Hiwatts' clean mil-spec layout. It also appears this amp was given a thorough recap job.   Photos Home Page

1.5: Sound City Tour Series Serial Number Label
The serial number indicates a 1977 Mahwah, NJ-made DMI model, which further helps to place this amp in the transitional period between the earlier English-made DMI models and the later American-made DMI SMF models.   Photos Home Page

2.1: Sound City Tour Series Front View
~120 watts from six EL34s, original knobs, large metal logo (different from preceding Tour Series example), black "basketweave" Tolex, silver vein and gold metal trim. Note also the arrangment of the Footswitch input, which apparently works in conjunction with the Dirty Intensity and Dirty Volume controls. Not sure where the Standby switch went, though.   Photos Home Page

2.4: Sound City Tour Series Chassis Rear View
Note the rear label is missing; however, this amp is from the same era as the preceding Tour Series amp. Love those JJ EL34s!   Photos Home Page

2.5: Sound City Tour Series Chassis Interior View
Compare the following photo with the internal chassis photo of the preceding Tour Series head, which definitely had a recap job.   Photos Home Page
